Fashion at the Golden Globes

NBC was certainly the station to be watching with the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were hysterical. Their monologue had me laughing out loud, and by the end when Fey said, “We promise we will wrap up by 11, 11 dark thirty at the latest,” I was in tears.

But before I dive into some of my favorite moments of the night, let’s talk designers.

Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman and Kristen Wiig wore my three favorite dresses. The gowns looked slightly similar, all black with cut outs, but I think these three were the best-dressed women of the night. Hudson wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen long-sleeved gown. Gold beading wrapped around her neck and the wing embellishments at her waist accentuated her figure. The cut-out in the front made her look sexy and elegant.

Kidman also wore an Alexander McQueen dress. The gold detailing that lined the neck of the dress gave her the perfect amount of bling. And the sheer fabric over her cutout stopped the dress from bearing too much.

Wiig wore a Michael Kors gown, and less was definitely more with her look. She wore no necklace, and her dress had a deep “V” with a diamond cutout on her stomach.

Sienna Miller, Lucy Liu and Taylor Swift wore my least favorite looks. Miller wore a dress by Erdem. I like the idea of two separate pieces for a gown, but I couldn’t fall in love with the pink flower pieces that looked like they were about to fall off her dress. I will give her props for her natural makeup, though. Minimal is beautiful.

I still have a love-hate relationship with Liu’s Carolina Herrera Dress. I love when celebs go big and bold, so I can appreciate that she went with a floral print. However, it was too over-the-top for my taste. I think I would have liked it better if the print was smaller.

I love Taylor, and to give her credit, I think I disliked her outfit because I was obsessed with her plunging, white Ralph Lauren Collection gown at the People’s Choice Awards. The Golden Globes dress just couldn’t match up. Swift wore an eggplant Donna Karan dress. I wasn’t a fan of the slicked back hair or the higher neckline of the gown on her.

Other great moments included when Ben Affleck won best director for “Argo” and “Argo” won Best Motion Picture-Drama. Affleck and Jennifer Garner are also the cutest Hollywood couple. Jen came up to present and thanked a few people Ben forgot in his speech.

Jennifer Lawrence (representing Kentucky) made a few great jokes during her acceptance speech for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. She should be hosting “SNL” every week, in my opinion.

Overall, the award show went off without a hitch and has me craving the Oscars.
