University and city officials met yesterday with residents of neighborhoods surrounding UK and announced changes designed to improve safety, security and parking during football games. "Throughout the remainder of the season, we're going to monitor the success of the program and improve the efforts as necessary," said Mayor Jim Newberry.
Students came out to the Student Center patio yesterday for Coming Out Day, which has been an annual event since 1988. The UK Gay-Straight Alliance and the OutSource center sponsored the event this year. Organizers set up tables with activities such as a bake sale, face painting and a patchwork quilt for people to work on.
UK student leaders gathered at a student-organized meeting last night to discuss campus diversity problems and solutions that they will present to the administration. The discussion was led by journalism and political science senior Brittany Langdon, who is also Student Government vice president, marketing and integrated strategic communications junior Patrick Nally and Spanish sophomore Wesley Robinson.

Power went out in parts of Central campus at about 4 p.m. yesterday after a squirrel chewed through electrical wiring, according to university officials. The outage occurred from Research Building #3, between the Kentucky Clinic and Scovel Hall on South Limestone Street, to around McVey Hall.
