UK women’s soccer traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday night with two goals in mind: to bounce back from the tough road loss against Missouri on Thursday night and to snap Lipscomb’s perfect record at home. But the Cats wouldn’t be the team to snap the streak, falling to the Bison 2-1.
The Cats had an impressive first half-- they dominated Lipscomb on the board with shots 11-2, shots on goal 4-1, and corner kicks 7-3.
But it was Lipscomb who scored first in the 9th minute with goal from junior defender Hailey Eck, her second of the season.
With the score quickly made 1-0, the Cats came alive offensively. It was UK’s sophomore midfielder Miranda Jimenez who got the Cats on the board in the 39th minute, evening the score at 1-1 going into halftime. This was her second goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Leonard came up big once again for the Cats in the 50th minute with a save on a Bison breakaway to keep the score even.
The Bison finally broke through Leonard in the 73rd minute to take a 2-1 lead. The goal came from Lipscomb’s junior midfielder Jordan Walsh, her second of the season.
Even down 2-1, the Cats fought until there was nothing more left to give and the last second ticked off the game clock.
This loss puts UK at 4-6 overall on the season, a rough 1-4 record on the road, and 3-2 at home.
SEC play will pick back up for the Cats on Thursday night as they return to the Bell to host the Florida Gators. UK will be looking to put a stop to their current two-game skid. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
