“Respect the past, Represent the future.” That was Nike’s philosophy while designing UK’s new uniform. The uniforms were unveiled on Friday morning with a presentation by Nike in Commonwealth Stadium.

The new uniforms were the latest step in establishing a new identity for the program that started with the logo change over the summer.

With horse-racing and the Secretariat being an inspiration for the design, the uniforms still have the patented checkered pattern. The biggest change, however, is the new Wildcat logo.

After having a primary logo 20 years ago that had the full wildcat along with UK, a lone wildcat head now takes the place as UK’s secondary logo.

To go along with the new logos, Nike developed a new font for UK. The new block numbers and lettering are called Kentucky Block.

For basketball, a new warm-up shirt with the new wildcat logo was displayed along with an all blue uniform for one-time use at South Carolina next weekend. A complete set of new uniforms can be expected for next season.

While the finishing touches are being put on the renovation of Commonwealth Stadium, the new uniforms will help to add to the new identity the head coach Marks Stoops is trying to establish for his team. Three uniforms were displayed: white, blue, and alternate grey. The team will start wearing the new uniforms next season.

“We feel like a new team with the new logo and more modern look and we just want to go out there and play for the state and the coaches,” junior running back Jojo Kemp said.
